HARVEST SCHOOL MEAL

Thank you to all those children who took part in the special Harvest school meal on Thursday of last week and to our after-school club who made lots of scarecrow-themed artefacts for display.

HARVEST ASSEMBLY (FRIDAY 11th OCTOBER 2019)

On Friday of this week (11th October), we will be holding our Harvest Assembly.  As usual, we are asking children to bring to the assembly food (packaged, tinned and boxed rather than fresh/perishable) and other items (e.g. toiletries) to help families who find themselves in food crisis and seek the support of Wythenshawe Food Bank which supports families across the area.  Families who use the food bank (they are usually referred by an agency) are given bags of food for up to three days of meals, including breakfast.  In past years, we have had a great response and lots of donations from our families and this has been very much appreciated by the local food bank.

We will also take the opportunity during this Harvest assembly to say thank you and goodbye to John Boyle who has supported the running of our allotment for nearly 10 years and has mentored our allotment teams during that time.  John has decided to hang up his trowel and pitchfork this year, hence we are looking for other volunteers with green fingers to support the school in running the allotment.

Weekly certificates will be given out at the beginning of the assembly to enable parents to leave for work.  Parents are welcome to stay for the whole assembly.

SPORTS NEWS

Given the popularity of girls’ football in schools, local schools have this year introduced a league for Y5/6 girls’ football.  (Last year matches took place on a ‘friendly’ basis.)  Last week, the team played matches last against Sandilands (11-0), St Wilfrid’s CE (13-0) and Rack House (0-0) schools.  Well done to everyone on the team for this success.

CHRISTMAS CARDS (Friends/PTA)

The Friends of NCS (PTA) held its first meeting of the academic year on Thursday evening of last week.  Thank you to those who attended, including parents who came for the first time.  The Friends will issue a newsletter in due course with updates from this meeting.

The Friends will be running a Christmas Card design/sale again this year.  This is an opportunity for the children to design their own Christmas card for professional printing so that parents can purchase packs and/or have the design printed on other items such as mugs.  These make great Christmas gifts.  This year, children in Years 3 – 6 will design the cards in school.  Children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 will take the design template home to design with parents.  Spare templates for all children will be emailed out to parents and will available from the school office on request.

Watch out early next week for the template being sent home in book bags.  Designs must not include any stuck or relief media (definitely no glitter please) – only pencil crayons or felt tips (clear colours are best for printing) should be used as the original designs will be scanned by the printing company.  All designs must be returned to school by Monday 21st October to be sent to the company by Wednesday 23rd October.  Once received and processed by the company, the designs can be viewed by parents and ordered directly online.  The Friends/PTA will earn a small commission on each sale.  Thank you for your support.

REMINDER : NASAL FLU VACCINATIONS (Reception to Year 6)
We will include this item in our weekly newsletter until the week prior to the vaccinations.

All children in Reception to Year 6 are offered a nasal flu vaccine (link to NHS website for information) on an annual basis.  This is carried out in school by Intra Health on behalf of the NHS.  All parents are asked to confirm whether or not they wish their child to have a nasal flu vaccine administered in school.  The vaccinations will take place on Friday 25th October, the last day of the half-term period.

Please follow this link – Nasal Flu Vaccinations – to go to the Intra Health webpage.  You will then need to choose  the YES or NO route to indicate whether or not you wish your child to have the vaccine.  Please note that you will be required to enter some details about your child, including name, address, GP surgery (for Yes and No) and their medical conditions (for Yes).

If you have any questions about the vaccine or the process, you can call the Immunisation Team on 0333 358 3397 or contact them by email via contactimms@intrahealth.co.uk
