Home learning tasks are now ready for Year 1 for Summer Term Week 1.  Click on the link to the left (Home Learning Tasks and Messages).  You can return to this page by clicking on the ‘Welcome to Year 1’ banner on the Task page.


Try to spend some time reading every day.  We appreciate that books at home may be limited, particularly given libraries and book shops are closed.  We will post links to free online books for children.

Audible (Amazon) have made available free online books for children
These can be streamed via tablet APP or on a PC/laptop without an account.

Myon Reading from Renaissance has thousands of story and non-fiction books for all ages.  They are organised into genres.  They also have newspaper articles so have a look at those too.  Select a book or two to read with your child every day.

The Book Trust website has a number of online books for different age groups.  There are also quizzes and activities related to books.

Oxford Owl has a wide range of free online reading books for school children.  They are grouped into age b ands.  It includes many of the reading scheme books we have in school.  Years 1 and 2 use the username NCS-2 and password NCSP2.  Go to MY CLASS LOGIN on the Oxford Owl page.

Collins have made available online a selection of their books from the BIG CAT Reading scheme we have in school.  Books from the Pink to Turquoise can be found in Key Stage 1.  Other books, including up to White band can be found in the Progress section.  They can be accessed (you sign in as a teacher) using the username parents@harpercollins.co.uk   and the password  Parents20!  



 

You can access Phonics Play on PC or tablet free of charge.  You will need the username march20 and the password home for free access.

There are lots of activities for different age groups in HIT THE BUTTON, including number bonds, doubles, halves, times tables, division and square numbers.

Click on the link to access daily Mathematics work for Year 1.  We use White Rose materials in school.  There are also videos to help you work through the lessons.

Power Maths (Pearson) have kindly made available some of their online maths text books for each year group.  The text books provide colourful explanations of concepts and questions for the children. Answers would need to be written in their exercise books or on paper.  The Year 1 book (1B) covers the following mathematics strands.

  • Section 7 : Addition within 20
  • Section 8 : Subtraction within 20
  • Section 9 : Numbers to 50
  • Section 10 : Introducing Length and Height
  • Section 11 : Introducing Weight and Volume

You cannot select individual pages from the contents page (that would have been really useful) but you can jump to a section or a specific page using the control buttons (like the ones shown below) at the bottom-right of the screen.  Click on the dots/lines to see a list of the different sections above or click on the page numbers to change them.

Purple Mash is our online ICT learning platform.  There are lots of computer-based activities for the children to do.  Children will need their own Purple Mash username and password to use this system during the period of school closure.  This will be sent to individual parents by Friday 3rd April 2020.

Scratch online is the programming language we use in school.  Children can create simple animations and complex games.  The online version will look slightly different to the version we use in school but the commands are the same.


 

We follow the CHARANGA Scheme of Work for music in school.  Charanga have made available some units for each class online.  Children can work through these units independently.  Children need their own username and password to access the units.

Children can listen to 100 classical pieces of music selected by the Royal Schools of Music and Classic FM.  You will recognise many of them. The username is homelearning@northenden.manchester.sch.uk and the password is Music22 (capital M)

This is an American site but has a great range of listening and other activities for children to develop their music skills and appreciation.  No account required.
